Karateka jostle for spots

The Johannesburg Knockdown Karate Association will stage the Gauteng junior and senior tournament at Katlehong Community Hall on Saturday at 9am.

The yearly tournament will be held under the auspices of the International Karate Organisation (IKO).

Sensei Mawashe Zilimbola, tournament director, said they were expecting all dojos from the province to take part in the tournament.

The tournament will feature the under-55kg, under-60kg, -70kg, -80kg and open weight division in the men's section and under-55kg, under-65kg and open weight division in the women's category.

Mawashe said they will select two squads that will compete at the South African championships and All Africa tournament scheduled for Cape Town early in July, respectively.

The winners in both categories will receive trophies and gold, silver and bronze medals.

l The Ekurhuleni Full-Contact Karate Association will hold an executive meeting at Katlehong Stadium on Sunday.

Chairman Collen Sedoaba said they will discuss the year plan and revive the executive committee.

The meeting starts at 9am.
