Four suspects appeared in the East London magistrates' court on livestock theft charges this week.

The four were arrested after police found them with two goats and four cows estimated to be worth R13200.

Sipho Ngantweni, 34, Ncedile Xhala, 32, Vuyani Ngantweni, 41, and Luyanda Mbulawa, 28, were arrested in different areas on Monday.

The arrests followed complaints by farmers in the Kei Road-Qhumrha area about the theft of their livestock.

Superintendent Mtati Tana said police were involved in a well-planned operation to recover the missing stock.

"Their efforts were rewarded as they managed to arrest the suspects and recovered livestock after working for long hours," he said.
