North West health officials and representatives of paramedics met yesterday in a bid to end a strike by the emergency services workers at the Rustenburg Provincial Hospital.

The paramedics downed tools yesterday demanding that they be paid for overtime, and be provided with new uniforms and fully equipped ambulances.

Lesiba Molala, a spokesman for the provincial health department, said the workers had not been paid because the money claimed exceeded the overtime budget.

He said an investigation would be conducted to determine why workers were allowed to work overtime when there was no money to pay them.

Molala said workers will receive new uniforms tomorrow. - Sapa
