Four Mpumalanga teachers will fly to the United States from April 3 to 14 to attend baseball tournaments and be trained in the sport.

The opportunity came about thanks to a 20-year relationship between a local reverend and a US church.

Reverend Mandla Khumalo said: "Earlier this year, the Michigan Church contacted me with the idea of baseball development in the province.

"I was obviously thrilled with the idea and immediately set the ball rolling to ensure that it becomes a success."

The teachers are from Sofunda and Sozama high schools in Mhluzi, in Middelburg.

They are Guster Nhlapho and Molefeng Shawane from Sozama, and Wesley Mogale and Jackson Matlala from Sofunda.

Nhlapho said she was thrilled by the opportunity to learn more about the sport.

"This will not benefit Sozama only but the whole province," said Nhlapho

"On their return they will be tasked with forming baseball teams throughout the province, which will lead to reviving baseball in the whole province,' said Khumalo. "This will lead to a sound baseball league and structure in Mpumalanga."
