A squabble has erupted between ANC and opposition councillors in the Greater Kokstad municipality over the changing of its logo.

All parties agree that the current municipal logo, bearing a rooster and other unidentifiable creatures, is meaningless. Also, the motto is written in Latin, which neither the councillors nor the community understand.

ANC councillors want the logo changed speedily while opposition parties say it is not a priority.

UDM chairman Tebogo Kanetsi said: "Changing the logo won't rehabilitate our roads, create jobs or fight poverty."

DA councillor Francois Rogers said he had no problems with the change though he failed to understand the reasoning behind it. He said service delivery was a priority.

New mayor Mbulelo Sithole has promised a new logo in a language everybody can understand.
