Promises, promises

Vuyolwethu Sangotsha

Eastern Cape MEC for education Johnny Makgato yesterday promised parents at Scenery Park's Uviwe Senior Secondary School he would ensure renovations, delayed for more than a year, would start soon.

Nosiza Vetho, chairman of the school governing body, said Premier Nosimo Balindlela and Education Department officials had made the same promises a few years ago. But they have not been fulfilled.

Makgato, who had a meeting with parents, teachers and pupils, said he would report the matter to the Bhisho legislature.

"I will investigate why the matter is being delayed," said the MEC.

Acting principal Billy Addam said the school faced a serious shortage of classrooms and furniture.

He said students studying different subjects had to share classrooms and had to go to Alphendale High School, about 2km away, to conduct science experiments.
