The people who are supposed to have a deep-rooted interest in Zimbabwe's well-being, the people of Zimbabwe themselves, seem content with their state of affairs.
If not, why does the majority continue to vote for Robert Mugabe? Their loyalties lie with Mugabe, as was demonstrated in their last elections.
The South African government cannot do much about Zimbabwe's problems if their own people sit back.
Comparing apartheid SA with Zimbabwe is completely off the mark. Unlike in Zimbabwe, the majority of South Africans could not vote.
Unlike the majority under apartheid, the silence of the majority of Zimbabweans is deafening. To think that our government's condemnation of Mugabe would bring about any change is wishful thinking. Mugabe would simply say, "Go hang". Only Zimbabweans can bring about change in Zimbabwe, not South Africans or President Thabo Mbeki.
Zimbabwe needs a credible opposition and Zimbabweans themselves need to change their mindset. Until then, the whingeing will continue because South Africa has whingers of note.
