Controversial Cape Town priest Father Fano Ngcobo has fired his first salvo as head of the Diocesan Black Catholics Movement (DBCM).

On Wednesday he said that for many black Catholics their church in Cape Town was not yet a home for them.

"The interests of the white and coloured community come first on the church's theological and pastoral agenda.

"Black Catholics cannot pretend this is not happening ," he said.

Ngcobo, 35, said the DBCM was articulating what many black Catholics had been terrified of saying for fear of being victimised.

The outspoken priest formed the movement after he was expelled from the church this year after a spat with what he called "white racist leadership".
