Film and TV scriptwriters can attend a workshop on entertainment law organised by the South African Script Writers' Union (Saswu) on Saturday.
The workshop will be held at 2President Street, Johannesburg, from 10am.
It is presented as part of the union's Writers' Talk series.
The series is a legal aid and business development programme aimed at the empowerment of aspiring and established scriptwriters.
The workshop will be led by Basil Dube, a union organiser and cultural industries facilitator.
Dube recently graduated in entertainment law from the University of Johannesburg.
He also holds a diploma in arts management from Wits Business School.
He is working with entertainment-law guru Anton Alberts, an advocate, on preparations for the first international entertainment law conference, which will be held in Cape Town next year.
The workshop will cover important topics such as copyright protection, intellectual property rights and writers' contracts.
"Writers as creative workers are vulnerable and they need to be protected.
"This workshop is about empowering them," said Dube.
"It is about the protection of their work and bringing about an understanding of the functions and relevance of entertainment law to film and TV writers."
