President Thabo Mbeki, right, has finally lost all connection with reality. Instead of listening to his citizens' cries for help, our president ashamedly blames racists for "perpetuating" the issues being raised around crime.

President Thabo Mbeki, right, has finally lost all connection with reality. Instead of listening to his citizens' cries for help, our president ashamedly blames racists for "perpetuating" the issues being raised around crime.

It is quite obvious that if the president had his ear to the ground, he would realise that crime is not a race issue, that it affects everyone in our country and that it is out of control. In addition, he would lose no respect from anyone if he admitted there was a problem and took measures to solve it.

But choosing to ignore crime or blaming it on some kind of third force, as Mbeki has done, is inexcusable and shows complete disregard for those who have lost their lives and those who have been affected by crime.

I would like to know how he expects voters to take him and his party seriously when their views and opinions are held in contempt?

Mbeki's reaction to crime is unfounded and an embarrassment. As the head of state, the buck stops with him. It's about time he upheld and honoured the values that our constitution and South Africans hold so dear.
