It's all systems go for the inaugural Mampudi Says 15km road race in Moletjie Moshate, Limpopo, on Saturday morning.

The event is the brainchild of former South African Marathon champion Daniel "Mampudi" Radebe, who was born and bred in Moletjie.

"I have always wanted to organise something for the community - to plough back. I never thought of anything else but an athletics event.

"It is a known fact that Moletjie has contributed a lot to the success of athletics in South Africa, we've produced too many world-class athletes," said Radebe.

"The problem is that there are no longer many athletes coming through the schools of Moletjie, where many mining houses in South Africa used to search for talent.

"I thought it would be a great idea to start an event that will be used to create athletics awareness, especially in schools in Moletjie.

"My vision is to see Moletjie once more becoming what Mdantsane is to boxing in terms of South African sports," explained Radebe.

Athletics legends from Moletjie include David and Rammy Tsebe, John Sebata, Lawrence and Percy Peu, Isaac Manamela, Patrick Mabitsela and Simon Ramphele.

Radebe has praised Sport and Recreation South Africa who are sponsoring the race, which is also used to create HIV-Aids awareness among the community.

"The race will start at Moletjie Moshate at 9am and will finish at GaManamela stadium. There will also be a 5km fun run in GaManamela."

Entry is R10 for the main race (R25 for unlicensed runners) and R5 for the fun run.

Radebe has a slot, "Mampudi Says", on road running TV show Tseleng
