Eastern Cape police are alarmed at the escalating number of suicides involving elderly men.

This comes in the wake of two recent incidents in the former Transkei of elderly men hanging themselves.

In one incident, a 54-year-old herdman from Willowvale was found hanging from a tree in the Qorha admistrative area last week. Last month a 56-year-old man killed himself in Gwadana.

The men have not been identified and police spokesman Captain Lingisile Magama said their bodies could be viewed by contacting Sergeant Thembile Mlahleki on 047-489-1210. - Vuyolwethu Sangotsha
