A high school teacher has been arrested in connection with a cash-in-transit heist earlier this week in the Bishop Lavis area, Cape Town police said yesterday.

Captain Elliot Sinyangana said the teacher and another man were arrested at 11.45am on Tuesday while sitting in a vehicle parked next to a business in Delft, Western Cape. Sinyangana said the men were arrested after an intense investigation into the heist.

Some of the money allegedly stolen was recovered during the arrests.

It follows the robbery of an undisclosed amount of money from a Fidelity Guard vehicle in the same area on Monday.

Sinyangana said seven robbers fled the scene in different vehicles at the time. The teacher was allegedly in one of the vehicles when he was arrested on Tuesday.

"We are still pursuing our investigation and more arrests are imminent," said Sinyangana.

The two suspects will appear in the Bishop Lavis magistrates' court today.

Sinyangana said police were still looking for five robbers and urged anyone with information to phone the Crime Stop number on 08600-10111. - Sapa
