NAIROBI - Somali Prime Minister Ali Mohamed Gedi yesterday appealed for R314million to help improve security ahead of a peace conference there.

The funds would be used to secure the lawless capital Mogadishu, which has been racked by violence since January, ahead of a National Reconciliation Congress on April 16.

"Simply put, they will be the largest reconciliation efforts to take place in the history of Somalia," he said. - Sapa-AFP
