The IFP in Durban's eThekwini municipality will hold a protest march to demand that the ANC has a rethink over the renaming of the city's 2010 World Cup stadium, King's Park.

The party wants the stadium renamed King Senzangakhona Stadium. But the ANC insists the stadium be named after SACP leader Moses Mabhida.

The ANC also wants the International Convention Centre renamed Chief Albert Luthuli Convention Centre.

The ANC had initially proposed the name King Senzangakhona.

Two weeks ago the IFP stormed out of a full council meeting on the issue, vowing to "caucus on the issue" and to continue objecting to its implementation.

Party caucus leader in the council Thembi Nzuza, who led the walkout, says the march will draw attention to the fact that name changes are not the domain of a single political party.

"This march is against dictatorship. We believe that all parties must and should have been properly consulted on this matter," said Nzuza.
