A former Durban police reservist dubbed the "blue light stalker" was yesterday sentenced to an effective 21 years in jail for two counts of indecent assault, two of kidnapping and three counts of defeating the ends of justice.

Ismail Sheik, 40, was found guilty in the Durban regional court on February 16.

The convictions related to incidents involving three women, one of them just 17 years old at the time.

In that incident, in 2002, the 17-year-old teenager was smoking dagga with her boyfriend outside a nightclub when Sheik "arrested" them and drove around Berea before forcing the girl to perform oral sex on him.

Sheik was granted leave to appeal. - Sapa
