A daring armed robbery at a pension pay-point in the Eastern Cape town of Sulenkama on Monday claimed the lives of two security guards and two of the robbers.

Captain Stanley Mzendevu, of the police's organised crime unit, said eight robbers arrived at a church at Sulenkama in a stolen bakkie. They opened fire, killing one the guards and fatally wounding another. Pensioners were injured in the shoot-out.

About 30 police officers converged on the scene shortly after the robbery took place.
