With six games to go it is still not clear who will make the playoffs for promotion to the Vodacom League from the Safa Ehlanzeni SAB Regional League, coordinator Elvis Sengwayo said yesterday.

Sengwayo said: "The leagues in all our streams are tough this season compared to last season.

"Next season we are going to trim our streams from five to two. And this is making the league tougher, as every team wants to avoid the chop."

The SAB Ehlanzeni region has five streams with 54 teams: Elephant, Lion, Rhino, Buffalo and Leopard.

With the possibility of forming two streams next season, about 30 teams face the dreaded relegation axe at the end of the season.

The champions of the different streams will compete against each other at the end of the season to determine the team that will represent the region in regional playoffs.

The champions in the regional playoffs between the Ehlanzeni, Gert Sibande and Enkangala regions will then represent the province in provincial playoffs.

Sengwayo said because some streams have more teams than others, their teams are forced to play midweek games.

The Lion stream is lead by Nelspruit Leeds with 30 points after 15 games, followed by Nyamazane Celtics with 24 points from 12 games.

Thabo All Stars are in third place with 17 points after 10 games.

Leeds play Easthigh of Excellence at 3pm today.
