Soul star John Legend has been hired to make Dreamgirls' star Jennifer Hudson's chart dreams come true - by penning her first hits.

Legend confirms music mogul Clive Davis asked him to be a part of Oscar-winner Hudson's studio sessions when she records her first album.

And the R&B sensation reveals Hudson isn't the only big name he's working on.

He says he'll also be writing with Whitney Houston.

But he knows his efforts aren't sure-fire tracks the women will record, despite his musical pedigree.

He tells MTVNews: "You never know with those things.

"You see what happens. If it comes out hot, it will make the album.

"If not, then it will just be an experience."

Meanwhile, passengers on the flight which Hudson took to her final Dreamgirls' audition were given an early taste of the Oscar nominee's talents when she performed on the trip.

The singer-actress knew she had one final shot at landing the dream role of Effie White in the hit movie musical after three previous auditions and used the flight to perfect her powerful And I'm Telling You ballad.

Hudson says: "They [the producers] called at 3pm and had me on a plane by 7pm and they told me to make sure I knew And I'm Telling You inside and out.

"So I'm on the plane learning the song and I'm just singing with people looking, and I'm like, 'I'm sorry, honey, but I gotta be Effie right now. I have to get this song together'.
