Eastern Cape police are investigating the murder of a 49-year-old woman who was found dead in her bed on Saturday.
The woman, who is believed to have died of multiple stab wounds, was found in a pool of blood in her bed in her home in Daliwe Location in Cathcart on Saturday night.
Police spokesman Superintendent Gcinikaya Taleni said the woman was discovered by her boyfriend when he visited her.
Taleni said the woman's throat had a wound indicating that someone had tried to cut it. He said the autopsy could reveal further injuries to the body of the deceased.
He said the woman's lower body was naked and that she might have been raped.
Taleni said police were following a number of leads and were optimistic about making an arrest soon. He urged anyone with information to call police on 045-847-1028 or Crime Stop on 08600-10111.
