Two security guards have been arrested in connection with the murder of a man hunting on a farm.
Superintendent Moatshe Ngoepe said the suspects allegedly shot Daniel Shiluvane, 47, in Gravelotte near Phalaborwa, Limpopo, on Friday afternoon and only reported it two days later.
Shiluvane lived at Matsotsosela village in Dzumeri, near Tzaneen.
The two suspects, aged 25 and 27, work for an anti-poaching security company, Protrek.
They allegedly noticed Shiluvane while patrolling the farm and tried to arrest him.
Ngoepe said Shiluvane resisted arrest and fled on foot.
When they realised that Shiluvane was outrunning them, the two suspects fired warning shots, Ngoepe said.
"Still Shiluvane continued running," he said.
Ngoepe said the suspects then apparently pointed their guns in Shiluvane's direction.
His body was found on Sunday afternoon after the two suspects had informed the police.
"Of grave concern is that the suspects failed to report the shooting on time," Ngoepe said.
"The incident happened on Friday and the suspects only reported it on Sunday. This is really disturbing.
"We have arrested them and they will appear in the Gravelotte magistrates' court today."
He said preliminary investigations show Shiluvane was shot in the waist.
"But we are still awaiting postmortem results to give us a clear picture of how Shiluvane died," Ngoepe said.
"Much as we would like to warn the public against hunting on private farms, we also would like to condemn the action taken by the guards because it was really uncalled for," he said.
"We will investigate the matter fully to get the finer details of what actually transpired."
