A 16-year-old girl was wounded when a security guard at the Refresh Night Club, which is in Overport Mall in Durban, fired a warning shot at a group of brawling teenagers.

The incident happened in the early hours of yesterday.

The teenagers assaulted the two guards, who had tried to break up a fight outside the club's entrance.

One of the guards drew his gun and fired a warning shot.

Police spokesman Muzi Mngomezulu said the shot hit a girl in the thigh.

"The girl is in a stable condition at Ntabeni Hospital.

"The two guards were also taken to the hospital and treated for injuries sustained during the assault," he said.

Mngomezulu said no one has been arrested in connection with the shooting.

He said police were investigating a case of attempted murder.

l A 21-year-old man was killed at a shebeen in Umlazi, south of Durban, in an argument that developed when the shebeen owner refused to sell liquor.

The man who was killed reportedly refused to leave the shebeen and demanded that he be sold beer.

A patron fired a shot, killing a man. Other patrons ran away.

Police spokesman Lungile Jama said a 38-year-old man was arrested and was expected to appear in court today.
