Bus driver dies at the wheel

A Washesha bus driver was declared dead after he had a fit at the wheel.

The driver, Mpilo Magwaza, 35, was picking up passengers in Vuma reserve on Saturday morning.

According to the passengers, Magwaza seemed to have had a fit just before he lost control of the bus, which veered off the road and overturned.

One passenger sustained serious head injuries and 13 others suffered minor cuts.

Magwaza was certified dead at the scene.

Police spokesman Jay Naicker said he believe Magwaza's death was from natural causes because, according to attending paramedics, he did not sustain major visible injuries.

The injured passengers were taken to Eshowe Provincial Hospital .

Paramedics had to use the jaws of life to free people trapped in the vehicles.

Two people were critically injured.

l The driver of a car lost control and rammed a wall in Windermere in Durban yesterday.

Netcare 911's Chris Botha said one passenger died at the scene and four were critically injured and taken to the Eddington and King Edward hospitals.
