Boy has bird flu

CAIRO - A 4-year-old Egyptian boy has contracted the deadly bird flu virus.

This brings to 24 the number of Egyptians who have tested positive for H5N1, health ministry and World Health Organisation officials said yesterday.

A ministry official said the boy had contracted the virus after coming into contact with infected household birds, but was in a "good condition".

Egypt has the largest bird flu cluster outside Asia. Most of those infected had contact with live birds kept at home. - Reuters
