Dugmore drops in on Yengeni

Western Cape education MEC Cameron Dugmore made a "courtesy call" on former ANC Chief Whip Tony Yengeni yesterday at a Cape Town school where he is doing his community service.

Western Cape education MEC Cameron Dugmore made a "courtesy call" on former ANC Chief Whip Tony Yengeni yesterday at a Cape Town school where he is doing his community service.

Dugmore's spokesman Gert Witbooi confirmed that Dugmore visited Yengeni at the Siyazama School for mentally challenged children in Gugulethu.

"It was a courtesy call, and that was it," he said.

"It is the prerogative of the MEC who he wants to make courtesy calls on. It was a personal visit."

Correctional services spokesman Luphumzo Kebeni said Yengeni started duties at the school soon after his release from prison in January.

He was performing general administrative duties, including filing, and also acting as a driver, Kebeni said.

He rejected a suggestion by the DA that Yengeni might not be abiding by the terms of his correctional supervision. - Sapa
