The CAF Champions League moved into top gear last weekend with a few scares here and there showing that the gap is fast closing in between the so-called superpowers and the minnows.

Those who watched Mamelodi Sundowns going through what they did to Kaizer Chiefs a few weeks back at the feet of Mozambique's Desportivo Maputo in a 1-all draw, will attest to that.

The runaway Castle Premiership leaders were made to look ordinary in a clash they were expected to walk through.

Those who missed it have a chance to catch the highlights on the African Soccer Television show, which is screened on SABC Sport's Laduma programme on Sunday at 3pm.

The show also highlights Young Africans of Tanzania recording one of the most convincing wins of the weekend.

Reuters reported that the Tanzanian side scored three goals in the last 13 minutes to set up a handy lead over Angola's Petro Atletico before the return leg.

The Champions League and the Confederations Cup took centre stage last weekend with Benfica Luanda crushing Daring Club Motema Pembe 4-1 in the cup encounter and APR beating Maranatha Fiokpo 2-0.

The 2007 MTC Namibian Cup round two saw lots of action with Oshakati City edging African Stars 5-4 on penalties after a 1-1 stalemate in extra time.

KM Eleven Arrows were too sharp for Civics FC, whom the clobbered 3-1

The CAF's yearly awards are also highlighted with Didier Drogba at last showing there is more to African football than just Samuel Eto'o.

He scooped the confederation's highest award for players, which the Cameroonian had monopolised for the past three years.
