Dynamic youngster Yolanda Cuba has been appointed chief executive of South Africa's leading black-owned and managed diversified industrial company Mvelaphanda Group.
She takes over from Stephen Levenberg, who steps down at the end of June after 10 years' service with the group.
"We've always considered impeccable BEE credentials to be one of our most important competitive advantages, and are fortunate to have among our executive directors a person of the calibre of Yolanda Cuba," said Tokyo Sexwale, Mvela Group executive chairman.
Brian Molefe, chief executive of the Public Investment Corporation welcomed the appointment, saying: "Yolanda is an excellent choice. Mvela is certainly leading by example when it comes to promoting black talent."
Cuba, a chartered accountant, is not even 30 and she is already making waves in the business world. She has served as deputy chief executive of Mvela Group since 2004 and sits on the board of directors of Mvela Group's two largest investments, Absa and Life Healthcare.
Last year she was named top empowered businesswoman of the year. Recently Cuba said she was not worried about being the youngest person in board meetings.
"People forget your age when they realise you know what you are talking about.," she said.
