The Gauteng government will use prominent sportsmen and women to help them in the fight against crime, which has reached an alarming rate.

Feroz Cachalia, Gauteng safety and liaison MEC, said this will also be in preparation for the 2010 World Cup finals and beyond.

Addressing sports administrators in Johannesburg last weekend, Cachalia said the high level of crime was unacceptable.
