Honour all freedom fighters

I wish to add my voice to those calling for the recognition of other prominent freedom fighters from other liberation movements besides the ANC.

I wish to add my voice to those calling for the recognition of other prominent freedom fighters from other liberation movements besides the ANC.

I am an ANC sympathiser myself but I believe we must recognise and honour all the freedom fighters across the political spectrum.

The ANC might not agree with what Robert Sobukwe or Steve Bantu Biko stood for, but those men contributed as much as any other leader to the freedom we are enjoying today.

We still have lots of places, streets and sites named after people who were oppressors and we don't do anything about it because we don't want to offend white people.

Must we therefore continue to offend fellow black people because they happen to hold a different view? I don't think so. We have proved beyond reasonable doubt that we are not going to harm white people and it is only fair that we move on with our lives.

Let me hasten to add that I am not speaking on behalf of criminals. For the record, criminals do not discriminate.

It would be nice to have places and important sites named after freedom fighters from other political parties who fought apartheid.

It would complete, real reconciliation and put our shameful past behind us forever.
