From this month, the powerful and beautiful monster car will be available to order in Europe.
Audi points out, poignantly, that design rather than performance is the major consideration more often than not.
Head of Volkswagen Group Design Walter de'Silva says of his product: "The Audi A5 is the most beautiful car I have ever designed."
To give an indication of the league we are talking about, the new models come in powerful V8, 3,2 litre engines, which put out a whopping 195kW of power.
A smaller 1,8 version capable of 125kW will be available towards the end of this year.
Thanks to a whole range of technical innovations, the A5 fuel consumption is significantly improved.
The bigger engine - 3,2 litre - sips a conservative 8,7 litres a 100km.
"Even when static, the Audi A5 makes a dynamic impression: wide track, large wheels and short overhangs not only characterise its muscular appearance, they also form part of the formula that produces its peerless active driving feel," says Audi.
"The Audi A5 coupe defines the new standard in its class for precise steering response, outstanding directional stability and superb agility, while also offering first-class ride comfort."
The interior of the vehicle was designed with the driver in mind, with animated shapes and precise workmanship.
"These represent a visual delight that is also a joy to touch," Audi brags.
Even the key communicates electronically with the vehicle's electrical system, and can also store important information such as the vehicle's current mileage or warning messages from the driver's information system.
The vehicle is also fitted with a navigation system and a DVB TV reception, which offers "pure delight to the ears" with its 500W 14-speaker system. The price will be announced at the launch. - Sowetan Reporter
