Bruce Kgapane, the managing director of Ziyaphenduka Promotions, an entertainment company, has come to the rescue of the disadvantaged again.
Last Thursday Kgapane gave a bicycle each to five Mpumalanga children from disadvantaged families.
Now these kids no longer have to walk about 10km to get to school every day.
The five children, from Barberton, had to walk that distance every day to a pick-up point where they would catch a bus to their school, Glenthorpe Primary School.
They wrote to the office of Mpumalanga education MEC, Siphosezwe Masango, asking for help and the office contacted Kgapane who in the past has given 150 bicycles to disadvantaged pupils.
"I did not hesitate to help because this is ploughing back into the community," Kgapane told Sowetan.
He said Ziyaphenduka had launched a "helping hand" project that had so far benefited 3420 children nationwide.
Other provinces that have benefited from Kgapane's generosity include Gauteng and North West.
"Our vision is to distribute a million bicycles within five years, starting from 2005," he said.
"I believe that this must be a challenge to other businessmen in the country to join hands and help the children so that we can reach the million mark."
Masango said he was grateful for what Kgapane was doing.
"Blessed is the hand that has given than the one that has received and what Bruce has done is indeed to plough back into the community," said Masango.
The students who received the bicycles are Derick Nkambule, Msongelwa Nkambule, Sifiso Zulu, Luka Zulu and Phetile Zulu.
Nkambule also expressed his gratitude by saying: "Mr Kgapane is a Good Samaritan. He is not our relative and will not benefit financially for helping us, but we pray that God adds more years to his life so that others like ourselves may benefit from him too."
