LUSAKA - Zambian President Levy Mwanawasa has sacked his lands minister after a spate of corruption allegations involving top officials in her ministry.

No explanation was given for the dismissal of Gladys Nyirongo, but the move followed widespread reports that senior officials in the ministry of lands had been allocating land in exchange for bribes.

Mwanawasa is on record as rating the lands ministry is the most corrupt in his government and he had previously promised to tackle the situation. - Sapa-AFP
