The song, De la Rey, that has been in the news so much lately, is about an Afrikaans leader in the Anglo-Boer War.
I have not heard any English-speaking people complaining about the song, but I have heard tons of comments and complaints from black people. Why?
The song has nothing to do with black people. It's about a war between white people. So why is the song regarded as racist? Is it perhaps a question of racists shouting racism again?
Also, sports administrators are complaining about the Afrikaans music at rugby matches.
Does this mean we won't be seeing Zulu warrior dances at rugby matches? Even our rugby mascot is a Zulu warrior.
I'll miss the Zulu warrior just as much as some of the Afrikaans songs in our multicultural country. Will all songs, other than English, be banned at any other sports event? I don't understand this logic because I thought we had 11 official languages.
Like in school, it seems that English is the only politically correct language. I hope my black brothers will join the Afrikaners in fighting for the other 10 official languages of our country. Freedom and peace to all.
