Peter Thage, the president of Karate Organisation of South Africa Matsushima, has reacted with delight to the announcement that his organisation is one of the projects to benefit from a cash injection by the Sports Trust.

The Sports Trust donated R882 000 to 11 projects in Gauteng, and gymnastics, soccer and karate stand to benefit from the donation.

"I am very excited with the news. What makes it greater is that the people involved saw fit to consider a smaller code like karate, which is often overlooked in favour of bigger codes. We plan to use the money to buy equipment that is sorely needed. We wish the other big companies can follow suit and support codes like ours," Thage said.

Alex Ndlovu, manager of Soshanguve Volleyball, one of the beneficiaries, also commended the Trust.

"As poor people from a township, we can now compete with other people on the same level. Our team has 19 members and now we've got our own equipment for the first time," said Ndlovu.

Trust chairman Greg Garden said the donation will ensure that young sportsmen and women are given the opportunity to realise their dreams.
