Two of the five people accused of stealing Winnie Madikizela- Mandela's jewellery were rearrested yesterday, barely 24 hours after they had been released on bail.
The two are Paul Githuka, 46, and his daughter Mpumelelo, 21.
They were first arrested two weeks ago with Nolwazi Githuka, 44, Paul Githuka's wife, the couple's son, Jerry Githuka, 18, and Mbuso Vutela, 47.
They five were arrested in connection with the theft of jewellery worth about R4million from Madikizela-Mandela's Orlando West home in Soweto.
The Githukas were each granted R3000 bail on Tuesday.
Their bail conditions stipulate that they report to the Orlando police station every day and surrender their passports to the investigating officer.
But on Wednesday the police rearrested Paul and Mpumelelo Githuka.
Police spokesman Superintendent Thembi Nkwashu said the two were rearrested because they were illegal immigrants from Kenya.
"I cannot divulge more. We are still investigating."
