The KwaDukuza region is among the most vocal in supporting Zuma.

Zuma is said to also have support in regions that fall within IFP-controlled areas, including his hometown of Inkandla, where even IFP supporters are sympathetic to him. The down side is that these branches are often not represented at ANC national conferences.

Other such regions are Malahleni near Newcastle, Utrecht, North Coast (Richards Bay), Abaqulusi, the Far North and Ukhahlamba (Ladysmith).

Regions that remain contested in terms of support for either Zuma or Mbeki include: the Greater

Pietermaritzburg region in the Midlands, the Bhambatha-Greater Umsinga region in southern KwaZulu-Natal and the South Coast region (Port Shepstone).

The East Griqualand region is the only region known to have massive support for Mbeki.
