Not only was Sam Williams hot on stage, he was also hot, very hot, with the ladies.

This was the confession by Williams' sister, Nomalizo Chauke, at his memorial service at the Baseline, Newtown, in Johannesburg yesterday.

"We don't know how many children he had out of marriage, but there are a lot," she said.

Chauke was among family members, actors and musicians paying tribute to the actor. He died of complications from diabetes on Tuesday last week at the age of 79.

Born in Cape Town, Williams was remembered as a humble and generous man who looked after other actors.

Among those paying tribute were notables such as Vusi Thanda, Lillian Dube, Thandi Klassen, Abigail Khubeka, Tshepo Nzimande, Mercy Pakela.

Williams, who appeared in films such as Velaphi and Kwasindwezama, was also a stage actor.

Former colleague Vusi Twala said: "He was wonderful with dialogue and excelled in every role he performed."

The funeral will be at United Apostolic Church, Kipasorn Street, Eldorado Park Extension 3. The cortege will leave from his home in 2831 Mimosa Avenue, Eldorado Park, at 8.30am.
