Tariffs on all toll roads will be increased from today.

The increases were approved by the South African National Roads Agency and by Transport Minister Jeff Radebe.

The increases are in line with the rise in the consumer price index, the agency claims.

Arthur Coy, chief executive of Trans African Concessions, which runs toll roads, said: "National roads are vital to the economy and tolling is an option the government chose to ensure that the road network was maintained to the highest standard."
