It is a pity that Face of Africa, the pageant that showcased our continent's beauty to the rest of the world, is no more.

It is a pity that Face of Africa, the pageant that showcased our continent's beauty to the rest of the world, is no more.

In a world perennially obsessed with Eurocentric beauty, the pageant was a breath of fresh air for many people tired of being force-fed the Western notion of beauty.

In the pageant, Mother Africa found the perfect ambassador to communicate the message to the world that black is beautiful.

Pity that this rare opportunity for young African women has now fallen out of the list of priorities of the organisers who, having ploughed millions into backing this wonderful concept, have had a rethink.

Sadly, the world still has to awaken to the reality that the woman of colour epitomises the beauty of the future.
