Ramatsiyi Moholoa

Various local and global soccer administrators are expected to converge on the Sandton Convention Centre today for the 2010 World Cup Media Day workshop.

The historic first day-long workshop in the build-up to the quadrennial tournament will be opened by the Local Organising Committee chairman, Irvin Khoza, right.

Khoza is expected to assure the media that preparations for the upgrading of existing stadiums and building of new ones were well on track.

Other speakers will include Markus Siegler, Fifa director of communications, Andreas Herren, Fifa head of media and LOC director of communications, Tim Modise.

The workshop will deal with the importance of the 2010 World Cup in the eyes of Fifa, an update on the status of the preparations and corporate responsibility.

Others are the 2010 African Legacy Project, media operations and relations as well as a joint alliance with various partners to empower Africa.

Representatives of the various host cities and training venues for the 2009 Confederations Cup and World Cup will also be in attendance.
