A poultry farmer accused of setting a trap that killed one of his employees appeared briefly in the Groot Marico magistrates' court in North West yesterday.
He allegedly set a trap that accidentally killed one of his employees Sello Kgopane, 25, earlier this month.
The farmer set up a home-made trap that loaded shotgun bullets to "scare" or "kill" criminals who came on to his chicken farm.
But Kgopane became his victim.
The deadly trap hit him in his left eye on February 1.
The farmer who is out on R1500 bail has not been asked to plead. Yesterday he looked relaxed before his court appearance while talking on his cellphone.
He is expected to appear again on April 17.
