Karate organisation sweeps the boards

Shin-Kyokushinkai karate organisation swept the boards at the yearly Karate South African full-contact championships held at the University of Limpopo in GaRankuwa at the weekend.

Isaac Mashinini, KSA's deputy president, said he was impressed by the skills displayed by karateka.

"Their techniques were polished and the fighters were well-conditioned, judging by the way they absorbed the punishment.

"I must commend the harmony that prevailed at the tournament and also congratulate officials who maintained impartiality in their decisions,'' said Mashinini.

He thanked the community of Gauteng North for their support.

Combatants from Shin-Kyokushinkai organisation were on top form and they grabbed all titles on offer.

Solly Hlophe won the men's open weight division when he knocked Dilizintaba Vuthela out with jodan hiza geri (knee to the face) in the first round.

Ntobiso Mabhida won the women's open section after beating Masedisa Mojaki in a close affair.

Other winners:

Men: Mashole Modise (under-55kg); Sifiso Malinga (under-60kg); Nhlanhla Mathebula (under-70kg).

Women: Zonke Mthethwa (under-60kg).
