Univen opens week late

A week after other universities began their academic year, the University of Venda for Science and Technology (Univen) will officially open today.

Spokesman Welheminah Mabogo said: "The official opening of the academic year is the beginning of a milestone for Univen."

She said the university was one of those which still faces underdevelopment and a lack of infrastructure.

Many students were expected to return to unrenovated lecture rooms.

The university has been criticised for failing to provide advanced education and learning materials to students.
