Teams advance in cup ties

SuperSport United yesterday defeated Winnerspark 2-0 to advance to the next round at the Loftus Stadium.

The first half was dominated by United, but they squandered a number of chances and also missed a penalty early in the second half. Captain Ricardo Katza blasted the ball against Winnerspark's goalkeeper, Makweni Mayala.

James Chamanga was the main culprit, missing two clear-cut chances in the first half. But he later made amends when he scored in the fourth minute.

Chamanga received a cross from Katlego Mashego from the left flank and made no mistake.

The Mvela Golden League side took the second half by storm, with Michael Mulaudzi giving the home side some anxious moments.

During the goalmouth scramble , United shot ahead when Katlego Mphela scored in the 73rd minute.

l Thami Nqolobe reports that Ajax Cape Town went through after beating Fidentia Rangers 2-0 at the University of Stellenbosch Stadium yesterday.

It took the home side 30 minutes to break down the beleaguered Rangers' defence when Nathan Paulse finished off a rebound after Thembinkosi Fanteni's shot rocketed off the upright.

Seven minutes before the final whistle, Franklyn Cale converted a cross taken by Brett Evans;

l Ajax Cape Town (Safa) humiliated Mosterjeug FC 7-1 in the Absa Cup last-32 game played at Dannie Kuys Stadium in Upington yesterday; and

l Garankuwa United beat Leandra FC 3-2 at Secunda Stadium yesterday, reports Amos Khotha.
