The economy of Newcastle in KwaZulu-Natal is to be resuscitated by the Small Enterprise Development Agency (Seda).

Mines that provided jobs to thousands of people were closed in the early 1980s.

Seda will work with the Amajuba district municipality in its investigation of mining in the area. The agency met business people on Friday to discuss ways to help the youth create jobs for themselves.
