Swift justice, as witnessed in the arrest and sentencing of two of the killers of acclaimed historian David Rattray, can only increase the public's confidence in the law.

KwaZulu-Natal Judge President Vuka Tshabalala sentenced Thembinkosi Ndlovu to 25 years last week for Rattray's murder.

Earlier this month, Fethe Sibusiso Nkwanyana was sent to prison for 25 years for his part in the historian's murder.

The criminal justice system's handling of Rattray's murder case must be emulated in other cases. Improving the capacity of our courts remains key to the success of the country's anti-crime initiatives.
