'Rotten refs killing game'

Sam Msimango, Safa Mpumalanga member of the national executive committee, is warning corrupt team officials and referees to end their behaviour because it is killing the development of football.

His comments come after Safa suspended Emalahleni SAB League referee Sana Mashiyane until the end of his hearing.

Mashiyane was arrested on February 14 for allegedly trying to fix a match between Witbank SAB league sides Seven Stars and Lynville All Stars on February 9. Seven Stars won the match 2-1.

It is alleged that Mashiyane approached Seven Stars' president Peter Molepe and demanded R700 for his side to win the match.

Captain Leonard Hlathi, provincial police spokesman, confirmed the incident.

"Mashiyane has since appeared in the Witbank magistrates' court and the case was postponed till March 27. He is out on R1 000 bail," said Hlathi.

Msimango said they are happy about the decision taken and hope a good example will be set.

If Msimango is found guilty he is expected to be handed a hefty fine or sentence.
