A tenant, who has kicked a 63-year-old Soweto pensioner out of her house, is about to face a legal battle from the Gauteng housing department.

For nine years, Lwanisa Ngoveni pleaded for help to stop James Mongwe from throwing her out of her house in Pimville.

Sowetan published her story on Wednesday and yesterday she was visited by Gauteng MEC for housing, Nomvula Mokonyane, who promised to carry all the legal costs of a court battle to regain control of her house.

Mokonyane promised to appoint a legal team to help Ngoveni appeal a court decision to give the house to Mongwe.

The house was given to Mongwe in 1998 after a court hearing in which he claimed Daniel Ngoveni planned to give the house to him, but had died before the deal could be finalised.

Ngoveni could not be traced.

A team of investigators has been appointed to deal with the matter.

Mongwe did not arrive to speak to Sowetan yesterday and his wife, Grace refused to comment.
