Exciting golfer James Kamte has turned his attention to securing his first professional title when he tees off in the Telkom PGA Championship at Woodmead from yesterday until Sunday.

Kamte aims to collect his trophy at the second oldest event on the Sunshine Tour calendar.

"I am playing well, striking the ball soundly and the new putter is working like a charm," he said.

Since he won the Vusi Ngubeni Development Strokeplay in 2003 to break into the professional circuit, Kamte has never looked back, consistently improving his ranking.

He finished 138th that year, then jumped to 32nd in 2004. In 2005, he accumulated earnings of over R247000 and moved to the 25th spot on the final money list. He heads a large group of black players for the R2,25 million event that has a R356000 first prize.
