Nel and four other DA members were suspended after siding with the ANC in a bid to vote out former Independent Democrat's mayor Jeffrey Swartbooi.
The DA's Western Cape leadership said the groups' action was in conflict with the coalition agreement.
The DA's Theuns Botha said: "Four of them would be suspended for the duration of their term in office and the fifth one is a termination of membership." - Sapa
